Pikes Peeks

Tim & Beth Pike have been in missions with the Assemblies of God since September of 2000 when they headed off to Vanuatu with their three daughters.  We were Associate Missionaries working with Phil Rojak, who's now in Papua New Guinea with his family.

This photo shows Tim and Havilah with villagers on one of the 84 islands of Vanuatu.

----------------------------------------------------------- After their 2+ years in Vanuatu the Pikes served in the Netherlands Antilles, on the island of Curacao, for another 2-year term (see photos in the other pages).  We worked with Rich Smallie, now appointed to Spain.

~ Curacao is where Havilah our oldest daughter, studying at the New Life Bible College where Tim was an adjunct professor of Global University - - met another student, Mr. Billy Roman of the Dominican Republic.  Well today  Havilah & Billy are married and have a son. They make their home in New Jersey where they're working, pursuing studies, and are involved in the leadership of their church, Iglesia Para Las Naciones.  Billy is pursuing ministry credentials with the NJ District Assemblies of God.

-----------------------------------------------------------

After their time in the Netherlands Antilles the Pikes then gained general appointment to their third field of ministry:

the northern leeward islands of the West Indies

...where we have recently arrived and are partnering with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies in reaching out to Spanish-speaking immigrants in those islands. ------------------------------------------------------------ ...But this appointment first required a year of language studies, after which Emily enrolled in studies at Zion Bible College in Haverhill, Massechussetts - thus becoming our second of three girls to leave the nest.  Her goal is to become a missionary.

Our year at language school in Costa Rica was marked with health concerns.  Beth became ill after only two months into our language studies.  The doctor admitted her for testing and she went into heart failure while in the hospital.  The good news is that she survived this attack, and today is doing very well with a state-of-the-art pacemaker.  She has been under the care of many medical specialists, both in the States as well as Costa Rica and has been cleared to do what we're doing now.

So - after much prayer and consultation - we have continued on in our missionary assignment, now that it's just the three of us:  Tim, Beth, & Christina.

-----------------------------------------------------------

We arrived to Antigua April 9 2010 and are working with church planter Fremio Santana of the Dominican Republic who has been starting works among these northern leeward islands of the West Indies.

So the broad goal is to advance the Kingdom of God among these islands. Eventually we hope to have a well-developed program of leadership development, including a Bible school to help train those called to full-time service in this latter day harvest.

...Our more immediate task is to develop a Christian day care center for the children.  The Spanish Church here has just dedicated a new building, and the older one is now available to house the day care.  A team of young people from the States came in July to help with the work.

The vision is for a bi-lingual center where children from Spanish homes will be exposed to English and vice-versa - - all within the framework of Christian nurture.

Additionally, we've been invited to participate with a group from this church ("Asamblea de Dios" of St. John's, Antigua) who are visiting the smaller works on at least two of the surrounding islands, with the goal of seeing what is needed, and what can be done to help these smaller Spanish churches, made up also of immigrants mostly from the Dominican Republic.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So the vision encompasses: (a) the Christian nurture and education of smaller children - both English and Spanish speaking; (b) assistance with church planting efforts already in progress; (c) discipleship training and leadership development, with Global University materials.

Additionally we anticipate that we will be preaching and sharing in the local churches on the island - both English and Spanish; we will be engaged in street outreaches in the capital city - St. John's; we will be hosting visiting teams and pastors from the United States, who will come to help with various projects; we will teach seminars on a range of topics, such as Marriage & Family; there is a possibility for involvement in cell group ministry; and once the Bible school is in place, ministry with the students will include jail & hospital visitation, evangelistic crusades & outreaches, and more.

We hope to utilize Library Services in Springfield, MO to bring in a complete theological library for the Bible school.  In the future (probably not until our next term) we hope to get Teen Challenge involved on the island with the goal of forming a local leadership team and getting a Teen Challenge Center started here, as drug addiction and alcoholism are huge social problems in the islands.

-----------------------------------------------------------  We realize that in each and every project we may have to start small and then grow from there.  And we remember that the Word says "do not despise the day of small things" (Zechariah 4:10).

Our goal is to address real needs with real solutions, in the Name of the Lord, and with His enablement.  And what we need most is the power of the Holy Spirit.

For, as the Word also says in Zechariah:

NOT BY MIGHT, NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT, SAYS THE LORD ALMIGHTY

It's in this regard that we request your prayers.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Pikes are the only A/G missionary family in this particular field, but we are working closely with our Area Director, Dale Coad.
